- She does not like cameras pointed at her. Not even iPhone cameras.
- She does not like being boxed in—as one might be if two humans wanted her to be in the middle of a family photo.
- She likes me more than she likes Vic.
So getting a family photo is a struggle. Here is this year's journey.
Day 1 (yes, it took more than one day)
First, we took a picture of just the two of us. Our initial thought was that, if we don't get a good picture of Bella, we can Photoshop her into this one of us:
Then we added Bella. We took about 10 in this position, and this was the best one. As you can see, all she cared about was the treat I had hidden in my shirt.
We decided to switch places. Maybe if I were closer to the stairs, she would feel more comfortable because her escape route would be better.
As you can see, that was super successful. (She didn't get anywhere near us.) We're still thinking at this point that Photoshop will be our best option.
Vic got up for a sec, and boom, Bella came over.
She got several treats and gave me kisses ...
... and high fives.
Vic and I switched places again. That went really well.
"I will let you touch me, but I am not thrilled by this." —Bella
Finally we decided maybe we'd take one of the cute pictures of me and Bella and Photoshop Vic into it.
At this point, we felt like we had plenty of good options. But my photographer husband was not happy settling for second best.
Day 2
First, he got out the big guns.
Then Vic tested the placement of the tripod and the light.
I came downstairs and ruined all his preparation. "Why don't we try putting a chair in front of the tree?" I said. "Maybe she will jump in the chair with me." She did not. She did, however, let me pet her over the side of the chair.
Then I offered her some cheese. She was very interested in that.
At this point, Vic joined us.
He felt a little jealous, though, so I gave him a cheese treat.
And somewhere in the middle of all that, we got the money shot.
I'm sure next year will go better.
